Practical Information & FAQs
We’ve gathered together the questions we’re most often asked. If there’s anything else you’d like to know before booking, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Before You Arrive
What time can I arrive?
Guests arriving on Thursday are welcome from 3.00pm onwards.
If you arrive on Arran earlier in the day, you’re very welcome to call in, drop off your luggage and say hello. While we can’t always guarantee that bedrooms will be ready before 3.00pm, you’re welcome to relax and begin settling into the surroundings.
Guests arriving on Friday are welcome to arrive at any time during the day, but we ask that you are at the Kirk by 3.00pm to allow time to settle in before the retreat begins at 4.00pm.
What time does the retreat finish?
The retreat concludes on Monday, with departures by 12 noon.
What should I bring?
We recommend comfortable clothing for both indoor sessions and time outdoors, together with waterproof footwear and a warm layer for exploring Arran.
Bed linen and towels are provided.
If you have favourite snacks or specialist food that may not be available locally, you’re welcome to bring these with you.
Accommodation
How are the bedrooms arranged?
The Kirk has four comfortable twin bedrooms.
If you’re attending with a friend or partner, we’ll normally allocate you a room together.
Guests attending on their own should expect to share a twin room. If this may present any difficulties, please let us know—we’re always happy to discuss the accommodation arrangements with you before you decide to book.
Can I come on my own?
Absolutely.
Many of our guests attend on their own and quickly become part of the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the retreat.
Food
What meals are provided?
We provide two evening meals, which are shared together at the Kirk as part of the retreat experience.
Each morning you’ll find a selection of pastries, cereals, tea and coffee available for breakfast.
The Kirk also has a fully equipped kitchen, so if you prefer a cooked breakfast or would like to prepare your own lunches and other meals, you’re very welcome to do so.
Where can I buy food?
The nearest supermarket is the Co-op in Lamlash, around a 20-minute drive from the Kirk.
If you’re travelling as a foot passenger, we’re happy to arrange a shopping trip after your arrival so you can stock up for breakfasts, lunches and anything else you’d like during your stay.
If you have specialist dietary requirements or favourite products that may not be available locally, we recommend bringing them with you.
Can you cater for dietary requirements?
We’ll always do our best to accommodate dietary requirements for the evening meals, provided we’re told in advance.
Please include any allergies or dietary needs on your booking form.
The Retreat
Do I need previous experience?
Not at all.
Whether you’re completely new to tarot, mythology or contemplative practice, or have been exploring these subjects for many years, you’ll be warmly welcomed.
Curiosity is the only qualification.
Will I have to take part in everything?
No.
You’re welcome to participate as fully as you wish. You’re equally welcome to spend time reading, walking, reflecting or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
Travel
How do I get to the Kirk?
Detailed directions can be found on our Getting Here page.
If you’re travelling as a foot passenger, we’re happy to collect you from the ferry terminal in Brodick, subject to prior arrangement.
Alternatively, a regular local bus service operates between Brodick and Kildonan.
Is parking available?
Yes.
Free parking is available at the Kirk throughout your stay.
What if the ferry is delayed?
Ferry services to Arran can occasionally be affected by weather or operational issues.
If you’re delayed, simply let us know when you can. We’ll do everything we reasonably can to help.

When is my booking confirmed?

Once everything has been agreed and payment has been received, your booking will be confirmed.
